Super Eagles’ pay disputes settled ahead of Algeria clash – NSC

Must read

The financial concerns surrounding the Super Eagles ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 quarter-final match against Algeria have been officially addressed, the National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed.

Shehu Dikko, NSC Chairman, reassured that all players’ and officials’ entitlements have been resolved, ending speculation about potential boycotts or disruptions to the team’s preparation.

“President Bola Tinubu approved the full AFCON budget back in November, and the funding has been fully cleared from our side,” Dikko told the News Agency of Nigeria.

He clarified that while approval and actual payment are distinct stages, players have been informed that their bonuses and allowances are secured.

“Approving the funds is one step; processing is another. But the players know the money has been authorized,” he added.

Discussions between the NSC, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), team leaders, and senior players have cemented tournament bonuses, ensuring everyone understands their entitlements.

“We negotiated the bonuses right up to the final stage. There’s no confusion; the players know exactly what they are playing for,” Dikko said.

Only daily allowances were requested in cash, and these have already been disbursed.

Match bonuses, meanwhile, are in the processing phase, with the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria overseeing timely payments.

On the field, the Super Eagles continue their dominant run, scoring 12 goals across previous matches to reach the quarter-finals.

Nigeria is set to depart Fès for Marrakech on Thursday, preparing to face Algeria at Stade de Marrakech on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Dikko expressed confidence that financial clarity would keep the team focused on the pitch.

“With all payments confirmed and processing underway, nothing will distract the players from achieving success in the tournament,” he said.
