Kano Defection Saga: I’m a man of action – Gov. Yusuf breaks silence

Must read

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has finally broken his silence on the raging controversy surrounding his rumoured defection to the All Progressives Congress, saying he believes in action rather than excessive talk.

The governor, who is believed to be planning to join the APC on January 12, made the remarks in a viral video where he addressed a group, though the exact date and location of the interaction could not be independently verified.

“I have never commented on the discussions surrounding the issues at stake because I don’t believe in talking too much,” Yusuf stated in the footage.

Drawing on a Hausa proverb, he added, “What started small has been magnified, as a Hausa singer once said, ‘Karamar Magana Tazama Babba’ (small talk becomes big matter). As everyone knows, I don’t believe in excessive talk.”

The governor emphasised his preference for tangible results over rhetoric.

“I’m always an action man; the actions that will benefit my people, as everyone has seen, that is what I believe in, not too much talk,” he declared.

Speculation about Yusuf’s planned defection has dominated political discourse in Kano in recent days, polarising opinion across the state.

While some political observers believe the move would strategically align Kano with the centre and enhance the state’s access to federal resources, members of the New Nigeria People’s Party have condemned the rumoured decision as a betrayal.

NNPP loyalists view the governor’s potential defection as a breach of trust against Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, who played a pivotal role in bringing Yusuf to power.

The development has triggered heated debates within political circles, with stakeholders divided over the implications of such a move for Kano’s political landscape.

At press time, neither the governor nor the APC had issued an official statement confirming or denying the planned defection scheduled for January 12.
