Two Nigerian nationals, Miracele Onyeka and Moses Chinoso, are set to be deported from India after being arrested by the Delhi Police for breaching immigration laws.
The suspects were apprehended on New Year’s Eve during a routine patrol in the South-West District of Delhi, having allegedly overstayed their visas and failed to possess valid travel documents.
According to a report by The Hindu published on Sunday, the arrests followed actionable intelligence received during New Year celebrations.
“The Delhi Police on Sunday said the South-West District team apprehended two African nationals who were found illegally staying in India without valid visas,” the report stated.
“The accused have been identified as Miracele Onyeka and Moses Chinoso, both Nigerian nationals. Necessary legal proceedings for their deportation have been initiated through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office in RK Puram.”
The operation was reportedly executed by the Operations Cell of the South-West District as part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal foreign residents.
Police sources disclosed that dedicated teams had been deployed to gather intelligence and take decisive action against individuals residing in the country without proper documentation.
During preliminary interrogation, both suspects claimed they had entered India on tourist or business visas, insisting their documents had been deposited with their embassy for safekeeping.
However, verification through the Immigration Department and other official channels revealed a different story.
“Both individuals had overstayed their permitted period and were unable to produce valid visa documents,” the report stated.
The discovery prompted authorities to commence deportation proceedings through the appropriate channels.
The arrests have drawn attention to India’s intensified efforts to clamp down on immigration violations, particularly among foreign nationals who abuse the country’s visa regime.
At press time, it remained unclear when the deportation order would be executed or whether the suspects would face additional sanctions before leaving Indian territory.
