Soldiers, robbers clash on Abuja-Kaduna highway

Must read

Army forces successfully intercepted an armed robbery attempt on the busy Abuja-Kaduna highway, preventing what could have been a major threat to travellers.

Troops swiftly engaged the criminals after receiving an urgent distress signal, averting potential casualties.

According to the Nigerian Army, the incident occurred near Nasarawan Doka, where soldiers responding to the alert confronted the assailants.

“Our troops moved immediately upon receiving the report and were able to neutralise the threat posed by the robbers,” said Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Shuaib Umar.

During the clash, one suspect, identified as Kabiru Zayyanu, sustained a gunshot injury to his leg.

He was promptly transported to Doka General Hospital for medical attention, while the remaining members of the gang escaped the scene.

A follow-up pursuit by the soldiers did not result in additional arrests, and no travellers were harmed or kidnapped during the incident, the Army confirmed.

“The arrested individual will be transferred to the appropriate security agency once investigations are completed,” Umar added, emphasising that law enforcement efforts are ongoing.

Troops have since reinforced their presence along the highway, maintaining patrols and surveillance to ensure commuters’ safety.

“We are committed to dominating the area and preventing any security breaches,” Umar said.

The Nigerian Army also reminded the public to stay alert and report suspicious activities promptly.

“Protecting lives and property remains our top priority. Citizens are urged to cooperate with security agencies whenever they notice unusual behaviour,” the statement concluded.
