Nigeria’s electoral commission has raised the alarm over a fraudulent website posing as an official recruitment portal for its 2026 ad-hoc staff exercise.
In a public notice, the Independent National Electoral Commission said the platform circulating online under the name “INEC Ad-hoc Staff Recruitment Portal 2026” has no connection to the Commission.
INEC explained that the site was deliberately created to deceive job seekers and harvest personal information from unsuspecting Nigerians.
“This platform did not originate from us, and every form or instruction displayed on it is false,” the Commission said, warning citizens to ignore the portal entirely.
According to INEC, recruitment of ad-hoc personnel is handled strictly through its approved digital system known as INECPRES, not through third-party websites.
Furthermore, the Commission clarified that only two official links are valid for the 2026 FCT Area Council Election recruitment process, covering both web and mobile users.
INEC cautioned applicants against clicking unfamiliar links or submitting sensitive details such as BVN, bank information, passwords, or verification codes outside its authorised platforms.
“Our recruitment process does not require applicants to disclose confidential financial or security information on unofficial websites,” the Commission said.
To prevent further victimisation, INEC urged Nigerians to always confirm that any recruitment link ends with the official inecnigeria.org domain.
Meanwhile, individuals who may have already registered on the fake portal were advised to discontinue immediately and restart the process using only approved channels.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparent elections and public safety, stressing that vigilance remains critical as fraudsters increasingly exploit digital platforms.
