The Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, yesterday failed to honour a police invitation in connection with allegations of multiple rape and other offences capable of breaching public peace.
AFRIPOST gathered that Okafor had been directed to report at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, before the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the department by 10:00 a.m.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Abimbola Adebisi, had disclosed in a Sunday statement that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, ordered a comprehensive probe into petitions submitted against the clergyman.
The accusations reportedly border on sexual impropriety and conduct likely to cause disturbance of public tranquility.
A senior officer at SCID, who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, confirmed that the embattled pastor failed to appear as instructed.
“Following the CP’s directive, the DCP instructed the unit handling the case to debrief him, but he did not appear. As of evening, it was evident he would not attend today,” the officer said.
Another source conversant with developments revealed that Okafor purportedly dispatched emissaries to seek additional time from the police authorities.
“We received calls from his aides asking for an extension and assuring authorities that he would eventually report. That is the latest update we have,” the source said.
Efforts to obtain clarification from Adebisi yesterday proved abortive, as telephone calls and text messages sent to her mobile line remained unanswered as at press time.
