The Ondo State Police Command has taken into custody a 55-year-old man, Ademola Joshua, in connection with an alleged case of sexual abuse involving a minor.
Police authorities said the suspect is accused of having unlawful sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl, an act that reportedly resulted in pregnancy.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the case was reported on January 4 by a resident of Ilara-Mokin, Adewale, who raised the alarm after inquiries were made into the teenager’s condition.
He explained that the complaint was immediately forwarded to the Gender-Based Violence Unit of the command for careful and discreet investigation.
According to the police, Joshua is currently being held in custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.
Jimoh said the action aligns with the policing reforms of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, aimed at improving the handling of sexual and gender-based violence cases.
He also called on residents to remain alert and continue to report suspected abuse, noting that public cooperation remains vital to safeguarding children and ensuring community safety.
