Terrorists raze police outpost in Niger community

Must read

Suspected terrorists have attacked and set ablaze a police border patrol outpost in New Kalli village, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

The attack, which occurred around midnight on Monday, came barely 48 hours after dozens of traders and farmers were reportedly killed in a separate assault at Kasuwan Daji, also in Borgu LGA.

Sources in the area said the assailants targeted the facility used by officers of the Nigeria Police Border Patrol Team, setting the structure on fire and destroying personal belongings.

The attackers were also said to have burnt farm produce belonging to residents, further worsening fears among farmers in the community.

Although no casualties were recorded, residents said the incident had heightened tension and frustration in the area, with many worried about the growing insecurity.

One source said the assailants, who reportedly arrived on motorcycles, vandalised the officers’ accommodation, set farm produce ablaze and carted away some personal items.

Confirming the incident, the Borgu Local Government Disaster Officer, Musa Saidu, said security agencies had been notified and assessments were ongoing.

Niger State Police Command spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, also confirmed the attack, saying: “On January 4, 2026, at about 10:30 pm, suspected bandits attacked the police border patrol nipping point located at Kale village via Borgu LGA.

The hoodlums were engaged in a fierce gun battle and were repelled by the police team.

However, the security post was engulfed in fire during the exchange.

Normalcy was later restored, and reinforcement has been deployed.”
