The Borno State Police Command has discovered 912 rounds of live ammunition concealed in the Kumshe Jamba Mari area of Maiduguri metropolis.
It was gathered that the ammunition, identified as B32 API type (7.62 x 51mm), was found following a tip-off on Saturday.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Maiduguri on Sunday.
Daso explained that operatives from the Lamisula Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, acted on credible intelligence and moved to the location around 2pm.
He said, “Upon arrival at the scene, the Department of Explosive Ordnance Disposal was immediately contacted and deployed in line with standard operational procedures.
“The area was cordoned off professionally, and the ammunition was safely retrieved. Efforts are currently underway to identify the owners and determine the purpose for which the exhibits were kept.”
The police image-maker noted that the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, praised residents for providing actionable intelligence that led to the recovery.
Abdulmajid, according to Daso, urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
“The CP reassured the public of the command’s determination to deploy intelligence-driven strategies in combating crime across the state,” the statement added.
