Troops kill three bandits, arrest logistics supplier in Kogi

Must read

Troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded fresh operational gains in Kogi State after foiling coordinated movements by armed bandits, neutralising three suspected criminals and dismantling part of their supply network through targeted patrols and ambush operations.

The coordinated actions followed credible intelligence indicating attempts by bandits to relocate across communities in Kabba Bunu and Yagba West Local Government Areas.

Acting swiftly, troops blocked identified crossing routes, forcing the assailants into direct confrontation and disrupting their movement plans.

During one encounter, soldiers engaged bandits advancing from the Adankolo axis towards Agbadu Bunu, leading to the death of two suspects.

Subsequent exploitation of the area revealed blood trails, suggesting additional casualties, while troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, 99 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a locally fabricated firearm and 11 cartridges.

Meanwhile, further intelligence pointed to renewed bandit activity around Saminaka village in Yagba West.

Troops, working alongside local vigilantes, advanced into the area and adjoining forest corridors.

Although the village had been abandoned, contact was made with fleeing criminals, forcing them to retreat through dense forest paths.

Moreover, a follow-up sweep of the withdrawal routes led to the discovery of another neutralised bandit, alongside the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and 17 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, further weakening the group’s operational capacity.

In addition to the kinetic engagements, troops arrested a suspected logistics supplier identified as Sunday Adedotun from Odo Eri village.

The suspect was apprehended on a farmland in Saminaka, with items believed to support bandit operations, including energy drinks, bottled water, soft drinks and harvested produce, found at the location. He is currently in custody and assisting investigations.

Commenting on the operations, the Commander of 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, commended the troops for their professionalism and rapid response to intelligence, noting that the successes reflected sustained pressure on criminal networks.

He assured residents that aggressive patrols and intelligence-led operations would continue to deny criminal elements freedom of action across the state.

The Nigerian Army said the latest developments underscore its resolve to not only neutralise armed groups but also dismantle the logistical chains enabling criminal activities in the region.
