Bystanders stole Anthony Joshua’s phone after auto crash

Must read

Confusion and disorder reportedly followed the road accident involving British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua, with his family alleging that bystanders exploited the situation to steal personal belongings at the scene.

Speaking on the incident, Joshua’s uncle, Adedamola Joshua, claimed that amid the chaos that erupted after the crash, some individuals at the scene made away with the boxer’s mobile phone.

He described the act as troubling, stressing that the focus should have been on assisting victims rather than taking advantage of their vulnerability.

According to him, the accident drew a crowd almost immediately, with several people more interested in filming and looting than offering help.

“It was shocking to see what was happening,” he said, adding that the disappearance of the phone was only discovered after initial efforts to stabilise those involved.

Moreover, the family expressed concern over the conduct of bystanders and the general culture of crowding accident scenes, which they said often worsens emergencies and delays proper intervention.

The uncle noted that such behaviour reflects a broader societal problem that requires urgent attention.

The incident reportedly occurred along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, where Joshua was involved in a serious collision that resulted in fatalities.

While the boxer survived with minor injuries, the tragedy has continued to generate public debate about road safety, emergency response, and civic responsibility.

However, beyond the immediate loss and grief, the family emphasised that the alleged theft underscores the need for stronger public awareness and enforcement at accident scenes.

Hence, they called on authorities to ensure better crowd control and quicker emergency action to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Anthony Joshua has yet to comment publicly on the allegation, as investigations into the crash continue.
