APC accuses Saraki of playing double politics

Must read

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has launched a fresh political attack on former Senate President Bukola Saraki, accusing him of projecting conflicting loyalties across different power centres.

According to the party, Saraki presents himself as a leading opposition figure within Kwara while allegedly courting favour from the ruling APC hierarchy at the federal level for personal political advantage.

In a statement issued yesterday, the party’s spokesperson, Abdulwaheed Babatunde, challenged Saraki to publicly respond to claims that he is privately sympathetic to President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition despite maintaining a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) posture in the state.

Babatunde argued that the allegations, which recently gained traction in political circles, have raised serious concerns about Saraki’s credibility and ideological consistency.

“What is at issue here is sincerity,” Babatunde said.

“You cannot condemn a government at home and quietly negotiate relevance with the same government in Abuja.”

The APC spokesperson described the alleged conduct as deceptive, warning that such actions undermine supporters who continue to stand by Saraki under the assumption that they are part of a clear opposition politics.

He also dismissed what he called coordinated attacks against individuals who first raised the allegations, insisting that the focus should be on clarifying the substance of the claims rather than discrediting messengers.

“This is not a matter that can be brushed aside with propaganda,” Babatunde said. “The allegations are weighty, and silence only deepens public suspicion.”

The Kwara APC further linked the controversy to Saraki’s past political conduct, referencing his emergence as Senate president in 2015, which the party claims was executed against internal party consensus.

According to Babatunde, the former Senate president’s political history reflects a recurring pattern of self-interest over party loyalty, urging political actors engaging him at the national level to proceed with caution.

“Anyone who wants to align with the ruling party should do so openly and honourably,” he added. “Political double-dealing, wherever it occurs, is unacceptable.”

The APC concluded by warning that attempts to benefit from the ruling party while sustaining opposition credentials elsewhere would be viewed as a betrayal of trust and political integrity.
