A captured Boko Haram suspect has made a chilling admission: after triggering a deadly explosion at a Maiduguri mosque, he returned to the scene and helped load the bodies of slain worshippers into ambulances.
Ibrahim Mohammed, arrested in Yobe State by troops and local hunters, confessed to playing a direct role in the December 24 bombing at Gamboru Market Mosque in Borno State.
“I went back to the mosque after the blast,” Mohammed told security officials during questioning.
“Everyone was rushing to help the wounded and move the dead. I joined them and assisted in lifting corpses into the emergency vehicles.”
The attack killed five people and injured more than 30 others who had gathered for evening prayers.
Mohammed revealed he posed as an ordinary civilian to avoid suspicion while carrying out the grim task among grieving survivors.
Security sources described the tactic as deeply disturbing, allowing the bomber to observe the aftermath up close while blending into the chaos.
“I saw the bodies of innocent worshippers I had helped kill,” he reportedly said. “It was only then that the weight of what we did hit me.”
Mohammed admitted he was paid between 70,000 and 100,000 naira for each suicide mission by his commanders.
His arrest came days after the bombing when he was spotted acting suspiciously in Damaturu.
AFRIPOST reports that the confession exposes the cold calculation behind such attacks and has prompted tighter security around mosques across northeastern Nigeria.
