FG declares paperless civil service

Must read

The Federal Government has officially transitioned all its ministries to a paperless system, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, announced on Wednesday.

According to Walson-Jack, every ministry has been fully digitalised, eliminating the need for physical paper in carrying out government operations.

She explained that over 100,000 email accounts have been created for civil servants through the GovMail platform, giving every worker an official government email address to ensure secure, professional, and traceable communication.

The digital initiative now covers 38 Federal Ministries and Extra-Ministerial Departments, including the State House, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Office of the Head of the Civil Service, Federal Civil Service Commission, and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

Walson-Jack noted that the move strengthens control over official correspondence, enhances responsiveness across agencies, and reduces reliance on unofficial communication channels.

The HCSF added that engagements with telecommunications providers are ongoing to make online access more affordable and reliable for ministries and departments, while a sustainable pricing model is being developed to maintain the digital platforms long-term.

She stressed that the 38 ministries and extra-ministerial departments will no longer accept paper submissions at physical registries, with all correspondence now required to be sent via official registry email addresses, and citizens can track their communications through the Federal Civil Service Paperless portal.
