BREAKING: Peter Obi leaves Labour Party, joins ADC

Must read

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has officially parted ways with the party and defected to the African Democratic Congress.

The development was made public on Wednesday at a political gathering held in Enugu State, marking a significant shift in the former Anambra State governor’s political trajectory.

The defection ceremony took place at the Nike Lake Resort in Enugu, where party leaders, political stakeholders and supporters from across the South-East converged for the event.

The move is seen as a major realignment ahead of future elections, particularly in the South-East, where Obi commands strong grassroots support.

Large numbers of his supporters arrived early at the venue, chanting solidarity songs and displaying party symbols, signalling their readiness to follow him into the ADC.

Obi, who ran on the platform of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election and finished third, has remained politically active since then and has repeatedly hinted at another presidential bid in 2027, with ADC insiders describing his defection as a major boost to the party’s national outlook.
