Must read

Nigeria delivered a commanding performance in their final Group C match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, defeating Uganda 3-1 at the Complexe Sportif de Fès on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.

This victory completed a perfect group phase for the Super Eagles and secured their progression to the Round of 16 as group winners.

Paul Onuachu opened the scoring in the 28th minute, converting a precise assist from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru to put Nigeria ahead before halftime.

Despite extensive squad rotation by head coach Éric Chelle, the Super Eagles maintained control of the contest through disciplined play and tactical composure.

Midfielder Raphael Onyedika extended Nigeria’s advantage with two second-half strikes, including a well-executed finish in the 63rd minute and a clinically placed effort four minutes later, reinforcing Nigeria’s attacking depth.

Uganda’s challenge was compounded midgame when defender Salim Magoola was dismissed after receiving a red card for a handball, reducing the Cranes to ten men and shifting momentum further in Nigeria’s favour.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Rogers Mato netted a consolation goal for Uganda late in regulation, capitalising on a through ball from Allan Okello to briefly lift his team’s spirits.

The result affirmed Nigeria’s status as the dominant force in Group C, finishing atop the standings with three wins from three matches.

Uganda concluded their tournament campaign with a solitary point and an early exit.

Looking ahead, the Super Eagles will prepare for their Round of 16 fixture with confidence, buoyed by balanced contributions across their squad and tactical flexibility that have underpinned their AFCON campaign to date.
