Fresh cracks have emerged within the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State following the sudden removal of its state chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, barely two weeks after his re-election at a party congress.
The decision, which has intensified internal tensions, was taken by executive members of the party in Gargari Ward of Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, who accused the chairman of actions they said were inimical to party unity.
According to the ward leadership, the resolution was reached during an emergency executive meeting that was formally convened and attended by key officers of the ward.
The meeting was chaired by the Ward Chairman, Shuaibu Hassan, with the Ward Secretary, Yahaya Saidu Dungurawa, also in attendance.
Moreover, the executives disclosed that no fewer than 27 ward officials endorsed the resolution, giving it what they described as overwhelming internal backing and procedural legitimacy.
Explaining the rationale for the action, ward leaders alleged that Dungurawa had consistently fueled internal disputes and widened existing divisions within the party.
They further claimed that his conduct eroded cohesion and weakened the NNPP’s standing among its supporters.
Additionally, the chairman was accused of failing to meet his financial obligations to the party and making disparaging remarks about Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, actions the ward said were unacceptable.
“Such behaviour damages the party’s image and threatens its internal stability,” one executive said.
Furthermore, the ward insisted that the removal aligned strictly with the provisions of the NNPP constitution, stressing that discipline must apply equally across all levels of leadership.
“No individual, regardless of position, is larger than the party structure,” another official said.
Following the decision, copies of the resolution were forwarded to the local, state, and national leaderships of the NNPP to ensure official records and facilitate further action where necessary.
The ward executives confirmed that the development had also been formally communicated to the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as well as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. They described the move as both corrective and cautionary.
“This action is a clear signal that party offices must be exercised with responsibility and restraint,” a ward leader said, adding that abuse of authority would no longer be tolerated.
Despite the controversy, the Gargari Ward leadership reaffirmed its loyalty to the NNPP’s national leadership.
They pledged continued support for Senator Kwankwaso and restated their commitment to the administration of Governor Yusuf.
In conclusion, party members and supporters were urged to remain calm and avoid actions capable of escalating the crisis.
The ward leadership stressed that its overriding objective remains the growth, unity, and long-term stability of the NNPP in Kano State.
