Fresh violence has again unsettled residents of Bundu Kahugu, as armed bandits stormed the rural settlement, leaving three people dead and several families shattered by another wave of insecurity.
The late-night assault, which residents described as sudden and brutal, triggered panic across the community, with gunshots forcing villagers to flee into nearby bushes in search of safety.
Moreover, the attackers reportedly abducted three individuals during the operation, deepening fears over the growing reach of criminal groups in the area.
Confirming the incident, a community leader, Ishaya Dauda, said the assailants struck under the cover of darkness and fired indiscriminately, creating confusion and fear.
According to him, the attack followed a disturbing pattern that has made residents increasingly vulnerable.
“This community is under repeated siege,” Dauda said.
“Within two weeks, we have lost more lives to similar attacks, and people now sleep with fear rather than hope.”
He identified those killed in the latest raid as Felix Augustine, Luka Yakubu, and Ezra Namata, noting that the victims were ordinary residents caught off guard by the violence.
However, the tragedy has also reignited frustration over security gaps in the area.
Dauda stressed that poor mobile network coverage continues to expose the community, as residents struggle to alert security agencies during emergencies. Hence, attackers often escape before help can arrive.
The attack occurred late on Monday night in Bundu Kahugu, located in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, further highlighting the security challenges facing rural communities across the state.
Meanwhile, calls have intensified for urgent government intervention, including the deployment of security personnel and improved surveillance.
“We need a permanent security presence here,” Dauda added, “so our people can live, farm, and trade without constant fear.”
Efforts to obtain a response from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the command’s spokesperson could not be reached for comment as of press time.
