Three suspects were lynched on Sunday night after an angry mob attacked and set ablaze a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) outpost in Danmaje, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident was confirmed by the NSCDC in a press statement dated December 29, 2025, and signed by the Command Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the attack occurred at about 10:30pm when residents of Yansango community brought three unidentified men, suspected to be motorcycle thieves, to the NSCDC outpost in Danmaje. The area was described as a hotspot for motorcycle theft.
Before officers could commence investigations, a large crowd drawn from neighbouring communities, including Yansango, Madinawa, Gagarawa, Limawa, Yankatsari, Danmaje and Gurjiya, reportedly gathered at the outpost and demanded that the suspects be handed over to them.
The situation was said to have degenerated rapidly as the mob overwhelmed the officers on duty.
The crowd reportedly forced its way into the office, set the facility on fire and lynched the three suspects before security reinforcements could arrive.
The NSCDC disclosed that personnel on duty managed to escape, though three officers sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.
While urging residents to remain calm, the corps said the Kano State Commandant, acting on the directive of the Commandant General, has constituted a committee to investigate the incident with a view to identifying those responsible and ensuring they are brought to justice.
