Insecurity: APC chieftain, Alao blasts Makinde over wasteful spending

Must read

A frontline chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Engineer Oyedele Hakeem Alao, has taken a swipe at Governor Seyi Makinde for his penchant of spending the resources of the state in order to milk the state dry.

Alao in a statement by his Media Office specifically berated the governor over the plan to purchase planes to tackle insecurity in the state, stating that the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission has bought a drone for the use of Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) code named Amotekun for the use of the six states in the South West region.

According to him, rather than living up to the appellation of pace setter state in what will set the region as a beacon of hope the governor is occupying himself with extravagant purchases, noting that he owes the people of the pace setter state a great explanation on how he is spending their resources.

The former gubernatorial candidate maintained that the security challenges in Oyo State despite its size should not be such that cannot be tackled with drone which other states in the South West region are adopting, insisting that buying aircrafts could not be in the interest of the state.

He said, “One thing that has been rampant with the administration of Governor Makinde since he came to power in 2019 is the penchant for misplaced priorities all in the name of serving the people of the state. While Oyo State is facing security challenges like other states in the country however resorting to the purchase of aircraft certainly should not be the way to go.

“Thus it is my sincere belief that it is time for well meaning leaders and stakeholders in the state to call Governor Makinde to order and stop him from further destroying the future of the state with unnecessary spending which is not in the best interest of the state.”

Alao while enjoining Governor Makinde to see to the development of the state as his priority, he said the recent revelation by former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose that the governor got N50b from President Bola Tinubu during the bomb blast in Ibadan last year without disclosing this to the people speaks volume of his sincerity in serving the state.

He noted that selling the state properties to himself and cronies is not the hallmark of a good leader, stating that history would be the judge of a leader who prioritizes his personal interest over that of the people who elected him to serve them.
