Former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, has been hospitalised following a road accident along the Makun axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident on Monday through its Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, who said the boxer and other injured occupants of the vehicle were rushed to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.
AFRIPOST gathered that the crash occurred shortly after 11am on Monday, just before the Danco Filling Station in Makun, near the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound carriageway.
An eyewitness, Adeniyi Orojo, said the Lexus Jeep conveying Joshua, with registration number KRD 850 HN, collided with a stationary truck on the expressway.
According to Orojo, Joshua sustained minor injuries in the crash, while two other occupants of the vehicle died on the spot.
He explained that the convoy comprised two vehicles, a Lexus SUV and a Pajero SUV, with Joshua seated at the back of the Lexus.
He said there were four occupants in the Lexus vehicle, including the driver, a front-seat passenger, Joshua and another passenger, while security personnel followed in the second vehicle.
Orojo added that passersby and other eyewitnesses immediately attempted to rescue the victims and alerted emergency responders, noting that officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived minutes later.
Confirming the development, Oluseyi said the police were aware of the accident and that investigations were ongoing. He stated that Joshua and other injured persons had been taken to the hospital, assuring that further updates would be made available as events unfold.
