Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has released documents which he claims show that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, received N50bn from the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu.
Fayose said the funds were approved as emergency support following the deadly explosion that occurred in Ibadan in January 2024.
Makinde had earlier denied receiving the sum and challenged Fayose to present evidence to back his allegation.
In response, Fayose made the documents public and alleged that only N4.5bn of the money was released to victims of the explosion.
The former governor further claimed that the remaining funds were diverted to support Makinde’s alleged presidential ambition.
In a statement personally signed by him, Fayose said he decided to release the documents so that Nigerians could independently assess the claims and determine whether the Oyo State Government had been transparent.
He also challenged Makinde to institute legal action against him, insisting that there were records showing that other financial support sent to Oyo State by the Tinubu administration was not disclosed to the public.
Fayose further alleged that he is in possession of documents detailing what he described as the actual Internally Generated Revenue of Oyo State, which he said differs from figures publicly stated by the governor.
He maintained that he would not make allegations without evidence and hinted that more documents could be released if the need arose.
Fayose said: “Meanwhile, only N4.5bn was released to victims of the Ibadan Explosion. Rather, he diverted this fund and many others to his Presidential ambition, which is the reason for the crisis in the PDP and his attacks on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his government.
“Also, there are documentary evidences on the actual Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Oyo State, as against Governor Makinde’s claim, but we will keep our gunpowder dry for now. My name is still Ayo Fayose, I don’t say what I can’t prove.”
