Gunmen suspected to be bandits have launched a deadly overnight attack on a family home in Pindiga, a town in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, leaving two people dead and two others abducted.

According to residents, the assailants struck late on Saturday, breaking into the private residence and opening fire, thereby throwing the quiet community into panic and grief.

Among those killed were Prince Yusuf Derdoski and his pregnant sister.

Their deaths, locals said, have left the family and the wider community devastated, given the violent nature of the assault.

Meanwhile, two other siblings were reportedly taken away by the attackers, who fled to an unknown destination under the cover of darkness.

Community sources explained that the gunmen stormed the house abruptly, shooting sporadically before seizing their captives.

As a result, fear has spread across Pindiga, with residents lamenting what they described as worsening insecurity in the area.

Moreover, locals expressed frustration over repeated attacks in parts of Gombe State, warning that many rural communities remain exposed due to inadequate security presence.

Confirming the incident, the Gombe State Police Command said it received a distress call at about 3:30 a.m., prompting an immediate response.

The police spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed that senior officers were deployed to the scene shortly after the alert.

He noted that security agencies have intensified tactical and intelligence-driven operations, working alongside hunters and local vigilante groups to track down the attackers.

“Every available resource is being deployed to rescue the abducted victims and ensure those responsible are brought to justice,” Abdullahi said.

In reaction, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a cruel act that undermines the peace of the state.

He stressed that such violence would not be tolerated and directed security agencies to deepen collaboration with local communities.

Furthermore, the governor extended condolences to the bereaved family and the Pindiga Emirate, while assuring residents that sustained efforts are underway to restore calm and secure the safe return of those abducted.
