The African Democratic Congress has accused President Bola Tinubu of abdicating his constitutional responsibilities, alleging that he has effectively ceded control of the country’s governance.
The party made the allegation through its spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday.
According to the ADC, the President has “outsourced his most important constitutional responsibility,” arguing that Tinubu appears to have taken a back seat in a role he is constitutionally required to perform.
The opposition party questioned what it described as the President’s apparent deference to foreign leadership, saying such actions raise concerns about Nigeria’s sovereignty and leadership.
The ADC also pointed to what it described as an unusual situation where the Nigerian President appears compelled to account to another head of state, a development it said calls for public scrutiny.
“When the President of Nigeria appears compelled to report himself to another head of state, even tagging a foreign President in a Christmas Day message, Nigerians are entitled to ask who is truly in charge of our country?” Abdullahi said.
The party said Nigerians deserved clarity on who is directing the affairs of the country, especially on matters of national importance.
