US Airstrikes: ADC lashes Tinubu’s administration for ‘historic incompetence’

Must read

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing it as demonstrating historic incompetence following airstrikes conducted by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) in Sokoto State on Friday.

In a statement issued on Friday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said while the opposition party backs lawful measures to safeguard Nigerian lives, it holds the government’s failures responsible for necessitating foreign military intervention on Nigerian territory.

Mr Abdullahi warned that permitting external forces to execute direct military operations within the country’s borders is untenable and poses risks to Nigeria’s long-term strategic interests.

The party spokesman further questioned Nigeria’s involvement in the operation, expressing concern that the nation risks being relegated to the role of mere informants in a mission it should be spearheading.

He called on the Federal Government to provide full disclosure regarding operational control, casualty figures, and detailed information about the number and identities of terrorists neutralised in the strikes.

“This a a show of historic incompetence on the part of Tinubu’s administration. The African Democratic Congress, ADC, recognises the serious security challenges confronting Nigeria and affirms that the protection of Nigerian lives and the defeat of terrorism must remain a central national priority.

“We therefore support all lawful and effective measures aimed at saving lives and restoring security,” the statement read.

Mr Abdullahi reiterated the party’s strong opposition to the physical deployment of foreign military forces on Nigerian soil, cautioning that desperation must not be allowed to compromise the nation’s sovereignty.
