Sowore slams US airstrikes, accuses Tinubu of surrendering national sovereignty

Must read

Human rights crusader and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has lambasted the United States government over airstrikes conducted on Nigerian territory.

He said the military action represents a brazen assault on the nation’s sovereignty and exposes the weakness of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The former presidential candidate, in a strongly-worded statement on his X platform on Friday, took both Washington and Abuja to task over the Christmas Day aerial bombardment of a village in Sokoto State, which authorities claimed was aimed at eliminating terrorist elements.

“I have read reports that the United States government launched attacks on Nigerian soil on Christmas Day, purportedly targeting terrorist groups within Nigeria.

“Although the Nigerian government now claims it was aware and describes the operation as a joint effort with vague ‘international partners,’ it is evident that the strikes were carried out without the genuine authority or informed consent of the weaklings masquerading as government under President Bola Tinubu,” Sowore wrote.

The activist raised alarm over Nigeria’s diminishing capacity to safeguard its territorial boundaries, cautioning that the country had been relegated to the sidelines in crucial security matters affecting its own citizens.

“It is deeply troubling that Nigeria lacks the capable and sovereign leadership required to protect its people and its territory.

“As a result, the country has been reduced to a bystander while its sovereignty is violated. Only true, tested, and informed leadership can protect Nigerians,” he added.
