Must read

The Federal Government of Nigeria has clarified that no direct strikes occurred in communities in Sokoto and Kwara states, where debris from expended munitions fell during precision operations against foreign ISIS elements in the Bauni forest axis of Tangaza Local Government Area, Sokoto State.

In an official press release signed by the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government stated that the operations were conducted in close coordination with the United States, targeting terrorist enclaves used as assembly and staging grounds by ISIS infiltrators from the Sahel region.

The strikes, executed between 00:12 and 01:30 hours on Friday, December 26, 2025, involved 16 GPS-guided precision munitions deployed via MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial platforms.

The operations, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, were launched from maritime platforms in the Gulf of Guinea and successfully neutralized the targeted ISIS elements.

According to the statement, debris from expended munitions fell in Jabo, Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, and in Offa, Kwara State, near the premises of a hotel.

The government emphasized that no civilian casualties were recorded in either location, and relevant authorities promptly secured the affected areas.

The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to confronting transnational terrorist threats and assured Nigerians of full control over the national security architecture. Citizens were urged to remain calm and vigilant as operations continue against terrorist groups.

The clarification comes amid public concern following reports of incidents in the affected communities, which the government attributed solely to falling debris from the successful precision strikes in Sokoto.
