Bandits abduct 30 women in Sokoto community

Must read

Armed bandits have abducted at least 30 women during a deadly overnight raid on a rural community in Sokoto State, underscoring renewed fears over the worsening security situation in Nigeria’s North-West.

The attack, which also claimed four lives, has intensified concerns among residents and security observers about the persistence of mass abductions despite ongoing counterterrorism efforts across the region.

Details of the incident were disclosed by security analyst Bakatsine in a post on X on December 26, 2025.

According to him, the assailants stormed Riji community in Rabah Local Government Area late at night, moving from house to house before carting away dozens of women.

Moreover, the analyst noted that the attackers shot dead four residents who reportedly attempted to resist the incursion, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

“Armed bandits invaded Riji community in Rabah LGA, Sokoto State, killing four people and abducting at least 30 women,” Bakatsine said.

However, beyond the immediate tragedy, the incident has reignited debate over the effectiveness of current security strategies.

Bakatsine, reflecting on broader regional dynamics, questioned whether intensified international military actions would yield lasting results, asking whether expanded United States missile strikes could realistically end the cycle of violence.

Meanwhile, residents of the affected area are said to be fleeing to neighbouring communities amid fears of further attacks, while local authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

Hence, the latest abductions and killings add to a growing list of violent episodes in Sokoto and adjoining states, highlighting the continued vulnerability of rural communities and the urgent need for sustainable security interventions.
