The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has extended Christmas greetings to Nigerians, urging citizens to draw strength from unity, compassion, and shared responsibility despite the country’s prevailing social and economic challenges.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the opposition party acknowledged that many families are marking the festive season under strained conditions, citing rising food prices, persistent insecurity, and widespread uncertainty about Nigeria’s future.
However, the ADC stressed that the Christmas season remains a moment for reflection, hope, and collective resolve.
According to the party, Nigeria’s resilience lies not in institutions alone but in the people’s ability to support one another across religious and ethnic lines.
The ADC noted that the spirit of the season should reinforce empathy and solidarity, especially at a time when national cohesion is under pressure.
Furthermore, the party expressed condolences to victims and communities affected by the Christmas Eve bombing at a mosque in Borno State, describing the incident as a stark reminder that insecurity threatens all Nigerians irrespective of faith or background.
The ADC said such tragedies underscore the urgency of addressing violence and instability nationwide.
“The pain of these attacks reminds us that insecurity spares no one and that our shared humanity must guide our response,” the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said.
The ADC also commended security personnel, healthcare workers, and other essential workers who remain on duty during the holidays, acknowledging the personal sacrifices they make to ensure public safety and wellbeing.
The party said their commitment reflects service in its highest form.
In addition, the party called on Nigerians to pray for the country, urging divine intervention to ease hardship and inspire leadership rooted in empathy, conscience, and genuine concern for citizens’ welfare.
It argued that sustainable national progress depends on values-driven governance and inclusive leadership.
The ADC concluded by wishing Nigerians a peaceful Christmas celebration and a hopeful New Year, expressing optimism that renewed compassion and responsible leadership could steer the country toward recovery and stability.
