The Peoples Democratic Party has insisted it remains united, dismissing claims of internal division following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s refusal to recognise its newly elected National Working Committee led by Kabiru Turaki.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, spoke in response to INEC’s rejection of the NWC elected during the party’s National Convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The electoral umpire, in a letter dated December 22, 2025, and signed by its Secretary, Dr Rose Oriaran-Anthony, announced it would not upload the particulars of the elected officers on its website, citing existing court judgements.
The commission explained that its decision was informed by subsisting court rulings and ongoing litigation concerning the leadership dispute within the opposition party.
It maintained that recognising any factional officers whilst the matter remains before the courts would be inappropriate.
In his reaction, Ememobong disclosed that the PDP had filed an appeal against the judgement that prompted INEC’s rejection of the Turaki-led executive.
A statement he signed reads partly: “The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party @OfficialPDPNig reiterates that in law and fact, there is no faction in the Peoples Democratic Party.
“This reiteration is necessary in the light of the @inecnigeria letter explaining their inability to recognise and upload the data of our legitimately elected leadership at the convention in Ibadan due to judgements of the Federal High Court.
“The said judgements have been appealed and an application for the stay of execution filed against the judgements, and very soon the Court of Appeal will hear and give judgement in the matters.
“The truth remains that there is no faction in the PDP as all the legitimate organs and the administrative structure of the Party are under the control of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.“
