Okolugbo steps down as Akpabio’s communications adviser

Must read

Kenny Okolugbo has resigned his appointment as Consultant on Communications and Strategy to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, marking the end of his advisory role in the leadership of the National Assembly.

The resignation was formally communicated in a letter dated December 22, 2025, which Okolugbo addressed to the Senate President through the Chief of Staff, Barrister Chinedu Akubueze.

In the letter, he attributed his decision to increasing business and family obligations that would no longer allow him to give the role the required level of attention.

Reflecting on his time in office, Okolugbo described the assignment as a privilege, noting that serving as an adviser to the country’s number three citizen was both professionally fulfilling and personally rewarding.

He expressed appreciation for the opportunity to work with the Senate leadership team and wished Senator Akpabio continued success in steering the affairs of the Senate and the wider National Assembly.

“I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me and the experience gained while working closely with the leadership,” he said, adding that he would continue to support the institution in any capacity outside official duties.

According to the letter, the resignation will take effect from January 1, 2026, providing a short transition period before his full disengagement from the role.

Confirming the development, Barrister Akubueze disclosed that Senator Akpabio had accepted the resignation and conveyed his goodwill to Okolugbo.

He noted that the Senate President thanked him for his service and wished him success in his future personal and professional pursuits.

Okolugbo’s exit comes at a time when the Senate leadership continues to shape its communication strategy amid ongoing legislative activities and national policy debates.
