Six members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State on Tuesday defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers are Robinson Dekor, Solomon Bob, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, Blessing Amadi and Felix Nwaeke.
Their letters of defection were read on the floor of the House by the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, who attributed their decision to “divisions and unresolved political crisis in the PDP.”
The lawmakers said the internal wrangling within the opposition party had made it impossible for them to effectively pursue their political aspirations.
They added that their defection would enable them to align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
With the latest development, the PDP’s strength in the Rivers State caucus of the House has dropped from 12 to two members.
The party had lost three lawmakers last week following the defection of Boniface Emerengwa, Awaji-Inombek Abiante and Boma Goodhead to the APC.
The remaining PDP members from Rivers State are the House Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, and Kelechi Nwogu.
