The leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party worsened as the Independent National Electoral Commission declined to recognise the National Working Committee purportedly led by Kabiru Turaki.
INEC, in a letter dated December 22, 2025, said it could not accede to requests to acknowledge or upload on its website the list of national officers said to have emerged from the party’s National Convention held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025.
The letter, signed by the commission’s Secretary, Dr Rose Oriaran-Anthony, explained that the decision was based on subsisting court judgments and unresolved legal processes arising from the PDP leadership dispute.
According to the electoral body, there are ongoing litigations concerning the crisis within the party, making it impossible for the commission to take any action that could pre-empt judicial outcomes.
INEC stressed that recognising any factional leadership while the matter remains before the courts would be improper, noting that it would continue to abide strictly by the rule of law.
