Fire razes over 20 vehicles at Zuba market

Must read

A late-night inferno tore through Malaysia Market in Zuba, leaving a trail of twisted metal and charred remains after more than 20 vehicles were gutted by flames, traders and security sources have confirmed.

The blaze swept through the market’s scrap vehicle section, triggering panic among nearby traders and residents as thick smoke billowed into the night sky and several parked vehicles were consumed in quick succession.

The incident occurred on December 17 at about 11:00 p.m. near the main motor spare parts area of the market, a popular hub for salvaged and used vehicles within the Zuba axis of the Federal Capital Territory.

Police patrol teams were said to have responded swiftly after receiving distress calls, while community members joined efforts to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining shops and residential areas.

A security source described the response as timely, noting that the collaboration helped avert a larger disaster.

“The situation could have been far worse, but the rapid intervention ensured the fire was contained within a limited section of the market,” the source said.

Despite the scale of destruction, authorities confirmed that no casualties were recorded. Traders were reportedly relieved that the incident did not result in injuries or loss of life.

However, the cause of the fire remains unclear, and officials have yet to determine the monetary value of the vehicles destroyed. Investigators are currently assessing the scene to establish what triggered the outbreak.

An official familiar with the probe said findings would be made public once inquiries are concluded, adding that “every possibility is being examined to ensure accountability and prevent a recurrence.”

The Malaysian market is widely known for scrap vehicles and spare parts, attracting dealers from across Abuja and neighbouring states, making the incident a significant setback for affected traders.
