BudgIT faults move to present 2026 budget without 2025 implementation report

Civic organisation, BudgIT, has faulted the Federal Government’s plan to present the 2026 budget to the National Assembly without releasing the implementation report of the 2025 fiscal year.

The group made the allegation in a statement posted on its official X handle on Thursday, ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s scheduled presentation of the 2026 budget on Friday.

BudgIT expressed concern that despite the country nearing the end of another budget cycle, details of how the 2025 appropriation has been implemented remain unavailable to the public.

“Mind you, there is still no budget implementation report for 2025.

“The 2026 budget is almost here, yet we don’t know how the 2025 budget performed?

“No report. No accountability,” the organisation wrote.

The group’s comments come amid growing calls for greater fiscal transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.

President Tinubu had, in February 2025, signed the N54.99tn 2025 Appropriation Bill into law, outlining government spending plans for the year.

However, BudgIT said the absence of a publicly available performance report on the 2025 budget raised questions about adherence to accountability standards as preparations for the 2026 fiscal year progress.
