Must read

The Independent National Electoral Commission has intervened in the lingering leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, summoning the rival factions to an emergency meeting at its headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting, which commenced on Thursday, brought together the faction led by Tanimu Turaki and the group aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed.

Sources at the commission confirmed that the engagement was convened to resolve contentious issues threatening the party’s internal stability ahead of forthcoming political activities.

Turaki arrived at the INEC headquarters alongside members of his National Working Committee, secretariat officials and a former governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu.

On his part, Mohammed was accompanied by members of his national caretaker committee, including the committee’s secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu.

As of the time of filing this report, the meeting was ongoing, with expectations that resolutions reached could shape the future direction of the opposition party.
