In a swift and decisive operation, Nigerian troops have struck a major blow against Boko Haram, killing several insurgents and seizing a significant cache of weapons and equipment during an attempted infiltration into a vulnerable community.
This latest success demonstrates the relentless pressure being applied to terrorist groups in the northeast, bolstering security and reassuring local residents of the military’s determination to eradicate the threat.
The troops, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, expertly detected and engaged the advancing terrorists, who were attempting to penetrate the area from their bases in the Mandara Mountains.
Displaying tactical discipline, the soldiers held their fire until the insurgents entered a prime killing zone, then unleashed a well-coordinated barrage that eliminated several attackers, including a high-value fighter and his cameraman.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of December 18, 2025, around 0030 hours, near the Bitta community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
Following the ground engagement, the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI delivered precision airstrikes on the fleeing terrorists, inflicting further casualties and blocking their escape.
A thorough search of the battle site afterwards yielded a substantial haul of terrorist logistics.
Among the recovered items were a camcorder, several AK-47 rifles, 11 loaded magazines, bandoliers, handheld radios, seven mobile phones, PKT machine guns, belts of linked ammunition for PKT and GPMG weapons, as well as motorcycles and bicycles used for mobility.
Evidence of additional losses was found in the form of multiple blood trails and hastily dug shallow graves, pointing to more insurgents killed in the combined ground and air operations.
Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, emphasised the troops’ continued high morale and effectiveness.
“Troops’ morale and fighting efficiency remain high as operations continue to deny terrorists freedom of action and ensure the safety and security of communities within the area of responsibility,” he stated.
He further reaffirmed the military’s commitment: “Troops of OPHK remain resolute in their determination to decisively defeat all terrorist elements and restore lasting peace and stability across the North East region.”
