Tensions erupted in Dansadau town, Maru Local Government Area, on Tuesday as residents physically confronted their state lawmaker, Kabiru Mikailu, accusing him of years of neglect and failing to address their pressing needs.
The lawmakers’ appearance alongside Governor Dauda Lawal triggered the angry response.
Locals alleged that Mikailu, representing Maru South Constituency in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, had largely ignored the community since his election, rarely attending significant events or responding to their appeals for assistance.
Some residents recalled, “He didn’t even show up during the Sallah festivities or when families were affected by bandit attacks,” highlighting a long-standing grievance that culminated in the assault.
Video footage circulating online shows the mob using sticks, stones, and sand to attack the lawmaker.
Others reportedly tore his clothes and shouted curses in Hausa, vowing to punish him for his perceived indifference. Police quickly intervened, restoring order and preventing further escalation.
The incident occurred while Governor Lawal was in Dansadau to inaugurate the reconstruction of the 90-kilometre Dansadau–Gusau road.
He also announced plans to rehabilitate the town’s General Hospital and introduce solar-powered electricity to boost local development.
Addressing the community, Governor Lawal emphasised his commitment to enhancing security and infrastructure.
“We are focused on rebuilding our communities and improving welfare, especially in areas affected by insecurity,” he said.
During the visit, the governor received a traditional honour, being turbaned as Garkuwan Dansadau by the Emir of Dansadau, Alhaji Garba Muhammad, Sarkin Kudu Dansadau.
This confrontation highlights the rising frustration among communities in Zamfara over perceived political neglect, underscoring the growing demand for accountability and active representation.
