The Federal Government has approved the reopening of 47 unity schools that were earlier closed over security concerns, signalling a renewed push to stabilise learning across the country.
Education authorities said the move followed a comprehensive assessment of safety conditions and consultations with security agencies, aimed at protecting students while restoring academic activities.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Federal Ministry of Education described the decision as part of a broader strategy to prevent prolonged disruption to public education, especially in federally owned colleges.
According to the ministry, enhanced security measures have been put in place around the affected schools to address earlier threats and reassure parents, staff, and students.
A senior official at the ministry said the reopening reflects the government’s resolve to balance safety with access to education, noting that “keeping schools shut indefinitely would have long-term consequences for students and the nation’s human capital.”
Moreover, the ministry emphasised that monitoring would continue even after resumption, adding that security agencies have been directed to maintain a visible presence around the schools.
