US cautions Nigerians on visa fraud

Must read

The United States Embassy in Abuja has issued a stern warning to Nigerians regarding the grave implications of engaging in visa fraud.

The Embassy stressed that falsification of information or submission of fraudulent documents could attract permanent visa bans.

The mission, in a statement posted on its X handle on Monday, declared: “Visa fraud has serious consequences. Lying or providing fake documents can lead to permanent visa bans under US immigration law. This means you will never go.”

The caution was issued alongside a meeting between the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, during which both officials explored areas of mutual cooperation between the two nations.

“The United States looks forward to continuing to work together with Nigeria on issues of mutual concern,” the embassy added.

The engagement followed sustained diplomatic focus on Nigeria’s internal security challenges.

In recent times, several US legislators have characterised attacks on communities, especially in the North and Middle Belt regions, as grave breaches of religious freedom, calling for enhanced partnership between Washington and Abuja to safeguard vulnerable citizens.
