It’s insult to Nigerians – Sowore criticizes moves to celebrate Buhari

Must read

Former presidential candidate and rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned attempts to celebrate former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing such moves as an affront to Nigerians still grappling with the impact of his administration.

Sowore made the remarks in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday and sighted by AFRIPOST, where he accused the Buhari-led government of leaving behind widespread suffering and deep national scars.

“It is an insult to Nigerians that at a time when people are still reeling from the devastation of Muhammadu @MBuhari’s disastrous reign, marked by mass killings, egregious violation of human rights, bigotry, corruption, and staggering incompetence, anyone would choose to add insult to injury by attempting to celebrate him,” Sowore wrote.

He said Nigerians who lived through the period were fully aware of the scale of hardship inflicted by the former administration, stressing that the consequences were still being felt across the country.

According to him, portraying Buhari’s years in office in a positive light was not only insensitive but also dismissive of the pain endured by citizens.

“To glorify that legacy now is not just insensitive; it is an affront to a nation still struggling, and in many ways unable, to recover,” he added.
