How unknown assailant slit worshipper’s throat inside Kano mosque

Must read

Shock and fear swept through a Kano community after an unidentified attacker allegedly slit the throat of a worshipper inside a mosque during early-morning prayers, turning a routine act of devotion into a scene of horror.

The victim, identified as Malam Kasim, served as the muezzin of the mosque in Hotoro Maraba, within Tarauni Local Government Area.

He was reportedly attacked while preparing to call worshippers to the dawn prayer.

Accounts from residents indicated that the assailant, believed to be a young man, struck suddenly, leaving little opportunity for intervention.

Consequently, panic spread quickly within the mosque and surrounding neighbourhood.

Moreover, the violence triggered an immediate backlash. Angry residents reportedly descended on the suspect shortly after the attack, and he was killed in the ensuing chaos before security operatives could fully take control.

Reacting to the incident, Maryam Kasim, daughter of the deceased, described the family’s anguish.

“We heard shouting from the mosque and rushed there, only to see my father lying dead. There were clear signs of a struggle, and everyone around is now living in fear,” she said.

Security agencies later arrived at the scene, deploying officers to restore calm and prevent further violence.

Police sources said efforts were focused on crowd control and preliminary investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack.

However, the incident has reignited broader concerns about safety within places of worship.

Observers noted that the killing highlights growing security challenges and the urgent need for stronger protective measures around religious centres.

Hence, the Kano mosque killing has not only left a family and community in mourning but has also prompted renewed debate over communal security and conflict prevention across the state.
