The United States House Appropriations Committee has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the continued killing of Christians in Nigeria, saying it will not ignore the growing concerns over religious persecution.
In a statement posted on its verified X handle on Wednesday, the committee noted that religious liberty remains a major component of its National Security and Related Programs bill.
“Directed by President Donald Trump, Appropriators led an on-the-ground mission to inform a report on Christian persecution in Nigeria and guide policy recommendations.
“Religious freedom and atrocity response are central to our NSRP bill,” the committee wrote.
The declaration followed a recent fact-finding mission to Nigeria by a congressional delegation acting on the directive of President Donald Trump.
The trip was aimed at evaluating the scale of religious violence and shaping the policy direction of the US Congress on the matter.
Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, had on Sunday confirmed that he received the delegation in Abuja as part of ongoing security discussions between both countries.
He explained that the talks built on previous engagements in Washington and focused on counter-terrorism support, regional peace efforts and strengthening what he described as an already strategic security partnership.
