Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has dismissed widespread criticism over her interaction with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke as an overblown affair, asserting that public scrutiny often inflates trivial moments into unwarranted scandals.
In a reflective Facebook post shared on December 9, Tinubu emphasised that leaders are well-versed in their responsibilities, while it is frequently the observers and detractors who magnify insignificant errors for dramatic effect, thereby diverting attention from substantive issues.
Oluremi Tinubu’s characterisation of the episode as exaggerated comes amid a viral video from the Ooni of Ife’s 10th coronation anniversary on December 8, where she twice approached Adeleke during his speech, urging him to conclude his musical interlude and focus on his remarks.
However, defending her actions implicitly through the post, she highlighted the disproportionate backlash faced by those in positions of authority, suggesting that such amplifications serve no productive purpose and undermine societal harmony.
The First Lady’s statement on her Facebook page read, “Those entrusted with leadership understand their duties and how to steer the affairs of society.
“More often, it is the followers and critics who scrutinise every step, amplify minor missteps, and turn them into needless controversy. Ọṣun lè tèǹtẹ̀.”
Meanwhile, AFRIPOST reports that the incident unfolded at the prestigious event in Ile-Ife, where Oluremi Tinubu was honoured with the chieftaincy title of Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua.
Governor Adeleke, known for his energetic style, had begun his address with a brief song and chant, prompting Tinubu’s intervention.
