No fewer than 150 delegates of the Accord Party have gathered to select the party’s governorship candidate in Osun State, with Governor Ademola Adeleke already cleared as the sole contender.
AFRIPOST reports that Adeleke formally joined Accord on Tuesday evening after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, citing internal crises as the reason for his resignation.
At the time of filing this report, 150 delegates, five from each local government area of the state, were seated at the venue awaiting the commencement of the exercise.
A statement issued on Wednesday morning by the chairman of the Accord Screening Committee, Elder Ibe Thankgod, confirmed that Adeleke has fulfilled all requirements for nomination and participation in the primary.
Thankgod, who also serves as the party’s national organising secretary, presented a certificate of clearance to the governor, describing him as a worthy gubernatorial aspirant.
Responding, Governor Adeleke expressed appreciation to the screening committee and the party leadership.
“I am ready for the primary and I am ready for the general elections. We are winning by God’s grace,” the governor was quoted as saying.
