An 18-year-old boy in Adamawa State has admitted to stealing soft drinks to celebrate his birthday.
Aminu Abdulazeez, from Bazza community in Michika Local Government Area, said he took half crates of Nutri Milk and Dudu Mineral to share with friends during his birthday celebration.
He was apprehended while making further preparations for the event and subsequently taken into custody.
Aminu confessed to the Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee during its review visit to the Mubi Correctional Centre, where he had been held.
The Area Court I, Bazza, had initially sentenced him to three months in jail with an option to pay a N40,000 fine after finding him guilty.
He was sent to the correctional centre last month for failing to pay the fine.
Upon review, the committee, led by the state Chief Judge, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, reduced his jail term to three months of community service.
Aminu is now to be returned to Bazza to sweep public facilities, a health centre, or a police station for the duration of his sentence.
