Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress, marking one of the most significant political shifts in the state in recent months.
The governor made the announcement on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
“Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party,” he declared.
The development comes as political alignments intensify ahead of 2026, with Fubara becoming the latest in a growing list of governors who have crossed over to the APC this year.
At the meeting, the governor said, “The governor announced his defection at a stakeholders meeting held at the government house in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.”
His move is expected to significantly alter the political calculations within Rivers State, where the PDP has traditionally held sway.
