Chief (Dr) Ewaoche Benjamin Obe, popularly known as the Ojimeri I of Ojira, has formally withdrawn his membership from the African Action Congress (AAC), marking a significant shift in the party’s political landscape in Benue State.
His resignation, which took effect on Monday, December 8, 2025, was communicated through a letter addressed to the state leadership of the party.
Obe disclosed that the decision came after what he described as “extensive consultations” with close associates, adding that it was not taken hastily.
He acknowledged that stepping away at this time was the most suitable path for him personally and politically.
Furthermore, Obe expressed gratitude to the AAC for its support during his 2023 governorship bid, stating that the encouragement he received remained a memorable aspect of his political journey.
In his words, “I deeply appreciate the efforts of the party and the support shown during my governorship race. It is something I will always hold dear.”
AFRIPOST reports that his exit may trigger speculation about his next political alignment, as stakeholders anticipate the role he may play in Benue’s evolving political space.
Moreover, Obe’s departure could influence grassroots mobilization within the party, given his influence in the Ojira axis and beyond.
With the 2027 election cycle building momentum, developments such as this continue to reshape alliances and political calculations across Benue State and the nation at large.
