APC reschedules NEC, caucus meetings amid political tight timelines

Must read

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rescheduled its National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings, shifting the earlier dates of December 15 and 16 to new timelines later in the month.

The party formally confirmed the adjustment through its National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, announced the changes via his X page.

Under the revised schedule, the National Caucus meeting will now convene on Thursday, December 18 at 6 p.m., while the NEC gathering has been fixed for Friday, December 19 at 3 p.m. Both sessions will be hosted at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Basiru stressed that the meetings remain critical to the party’s governance structure, describing them as “procedural engagements guided by the provisions of Articles 12.5 and 12.3 of the APC constitution”.

According to the secretary, the changed dates “do not alter the significance of the agenda before the party leadership”.

However, senior insiders hinted that the postponement may be linked to the demanding calendar of the National Leader of the party, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

One high-ranking member of the NWC, who declined to be named, told our correspondent that “the tight coordination around national duties made the initial dates impractical, and the party considered it more strategic to ensure full participation”.

Political observers believe the meetings could shape decisions ahead of upcoming state-level congresses and internal restructuring plans.

Moreover, stakeholders anticipate conversations on governance priorities and party cohesion issues as the APC works to consolidate its influence nationwide.

With the new dates set, all eyes will be on Abuja as the party’s top hierarchy converges for deliberations many insiders describe as “timely and pivotal” for the ruling party’s next political chapter.
