The Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party convened in Abuja, outlining a renewed resolve to rebuild trust, reorganise its structure, and restart congresses in states where internal elections remain pending.
Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, who presided over the deliberations, said the BoT’s priority is to restore confidence in the party’s direction.
He emphasised that the national leadership intends to collaborate more closely with state chapters to introduce fresh leadership and entrench greater stability.
During the meeting, Ohuabunwa presented what he described as a roadmap for repositioning.
The plan includes conducting outstanding state congresses, consolidating recent gains, and offering strategic support to the national leadership to guide the party through its current political terrain.
He noted that pushing ahead with timely congresses forms part of a wider strategy to improve transparency and deepen grassroots participation, which he said remain essential to keeping the party cohesive and election-ready.
Ahead of upcoming political contests, leaders expressed hope that strengthening internal structures and enforcing organisational discipline would allow the party to present a unified and credible platform to Nigerians.
The BoT insisted the measures are designed to rebuild trust among members and reaffirm the party’s relevance across the federation.
Further discussions are expected as the BoT moves toward implementation of the resolutions agreed during the meeting, signalling a recalibration of strategy as the PDP seeks greater political footing.
